Mukesh Sharma is one of India’s leading exponent of Sarod & Rabab. His highly versatile and esthetic perception of the Sarod has enabled him to touch the most profound depths of his instrument. His purity of style, uniqueness of imagination with his brilliant technique make his recitals Enchanting. His music is filled with melodic command and rhythmic complexity that make an experience incomparably sweet, melancholic and joyous. His father Pandit Rasik Bihari Lal was an eminent Sarod artist from Lucknow. Mukesh had his initial training from his grand father Pt. Ram Gopal (Sitar artist) and his uncle Pt. Vinay Behari Lal (Sarod artist) then Pt. Suprabhat Paul, (Sangeetacharya) Dr. Ramaballabh Mishra, Padma Vibhushan Pt. Ramnarayan and Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji. He has also received guidance and tranning from Padma Vibhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Saheb.

Mukesh has won the following awards over the years: 1995 to 1997 - Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India 1976 - Winner of the UP Sangeet Natak Academy Compettition 1977 - Winner of the UP Sangeet Natak Academy Compettition 1979 - Winner of the All India Radio Music competition 1982 - Winner All India Inter University Competition 1983 - Winner All India Inter University Competition 1988 - Sur-Mani title at the Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan (Mumbai) 1998 - Sur-Mani Award from Mumbai 1994 - Rashtriya Yuva Pratishthan Puraskar in Lucknow 1997 - Award from Association Culturelle - Reunion Island 2012 - Award from Maison Des Cultures Du Monde, Paris 2016 - Prestigious U.P. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the Year 2025 - Shri Swami Haridas Sangeet Kala Ratan Samman in Vrindavan In December 2014 he performed at Noble Peace Centre, Oslo Norwray.
